Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel today before we leave for a city tour in Jodhpur, Rajasthan’s second largest city, the former ancient capital Mandore. Take an impressive walk through the home of the royal family from hundreds of years ago, Umaid Bhawan Palace. Today, part of this historic buildings has been converted into a hotel and museum and is one of the world’s largest private residences. Check out their vintage car collection and old clocks made through different periods of time at the museum. We’ll head out to visit the famous Mehrangarh Fort, also known as the “Citadel of the Sun”. This famous tourist spot covers over 1,200 acres of land in Jodhpur, a huge complex constructed in 1459 and continued to be developed with most of the prominent features we see now originating from the 17th century. Located on a hilltop, this formidable fortress looks absolutely magnificent from afar as the red sandstone wall gets reflected in the sun, a view worthy of the Rathore kings. Inside the fort, we’re going to see the Victory Gate, Jai Pol, added in 1806 after winning a war against neighboring kingdoms. Fateh Pol is a gate erected by Maharaja Ajit Singh, another Victory Gate to celebrate winning against the Mughals. Finally, we’ll go see the beautiful gardens of Jaswant Thada, which is a cenotaph built in 1899 to remember Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. The gazebos and architecture of this place are truly stunning. Once you’re done marveling at the beautiful buildings, we’ll head to Clock Tower Market and Sarafa Bazaar for shopping! Enjoy sifting through handcrafted metalworks, antique coins, and clothes at bargain prices before heading back to your hotel for overnight stay in Jodhpur.
